Consumer Troubleshooting Guide

Introduction

The troubleshooting guide is made up of frequently asked questions and interactions we have with our customers. If your unable to find a resolution based off the below results, please contact us back on the support page.

 

GPS location is not being sent when I send an alert.

Go inside your phones location settings for the Silent Beacon App and make sure you have Allow my location to be shared ON or similar. Don’t Allow or Notify me first” will cause the App not to work correctly.

Device blinking red but not connected to App

Reset the beacon by holding both buttons for 20 seconds. The Beacon (if it has firmware 209 or earlier) will still blink red but this is OK. Simply press the small button on the Beacon to turn it back on (wait 3 – 4 seconds) then the Beacon will ack normal again.

Beacon Not Pairing

  • Have you set up an account with the correct Silent Beacon App?
    • Confirm the App is the blue consumer app and the most current version from the App Store
    • Confirm you have logged in to the App with the correct phone number
  • Confirm your Beacon is turned on.
      • Press the secondary (smaller smooth button) for 1 second, It should blink blue or red if it is on.
        • If it does not show a color when pressed, hold the small button again for @3 seconds, it will then turn on.
  • Confirm Bluetooth is on.
    • Go to your phone’s Bluetooth settings and make sure it is on and has silent beacon 2.0 as selected device
    • Go back into the App to the Beacon Tab and see if calling and pairing are blue with a checkmark.
  • If this does not work follow the following steps:
    • If possible click Remove Device from the Beacon Tab, if you can not, please hold both buttons down on the Beacon for 20 seconds. It will start blinking white then shut down (3 beeps).
    • Make sure you close the Silent Beacon App
    • Go into your phones Bluetooth settings and remove any instance of SB App / Silent Beacon / SB Alert / Silent Beacon 2.0
    • Toggle your phones Bluetooth off/on
    • Turn on your Beacon by holding the secondary small button for about 3 seconds (you will hear it turn on, vibrate and the LED will blink red)
    • Open the Silent Beacon App up again.
    • Navigate to the Beacon Tab and select the appropriate Beacon.
      • If there is just a circle with a plus sign something was not done properly, try pressing the circle so that bluetooth connection is started.
    • Go through the connection process again.
  • If this still fails please call / email us.

  • Can the Silent Beacon Call 911?

    Yes, in fact you can store any number you want! This can include 911, loved ones or any other emergency personnel phone number. Simply go inside the Silent Beacon Application and add a new contact, type in the number you wish and select as your Call Contact.

  • How would I know if I hit the button on accident?

    We made the Silent Beacon with 2 indented buttons to avoid false alerts. In the event you still hit the device it will vibrate and red LEDs will flash. If this does not get your attention it will also call your stored emergency contact allowing you to hear the Silent Beacon ring.

  • Do I need to have my cell phone with me?

    The Silent Beacon is a smartphone accessory that works with Bluetooth® devices. You will need a Bluetooth® 4.0 smartphone, tablet or other device that works with our Application.

  • What smartphones work with the current Device?

    We have expanded our Application to all smartphone users, however the actual Silent Beacon Device will need a Bluetooth® 4.0 smartphone, tablet or accessory. Here is the list of all Apple smartphones with Bluetooth® 4.0 technology that currently work with our Beacon:

  • Me or someone else accidentally replied to the activation text with STOP, how can I fix this?

    Since you replied with “STOP” to one of our previous messages you will not be able receive a notification until you responded with “START” to the number. In case you deleted the text, you just hit START to 310-596-8083.

    We recommend saving this number as Silent Beacon in your phone so that you are aware the next time you see it.

  • My registration code has not come yet, why?

    There are various reasons this might be occurring. Before you send us a message check this list of possible reasons:

    Your phone may have text messaging turned off
    Your phone may have a spam text blocker with will block the code
    Check to make sure you put in your correct area code and phone number

  • How do I become a retail provider?

  • How do I change my PIN code?

    Go into Settings from the Main Menu and click My Passcode.

  • How to customize messages?

    This feature is for sending text messages, nudge messages or emails to loved ones with a screenshot of your location, letting them know you are OK.

    This is only available on the plus subscription.

    To customize your messages, go to your settings within the Silent Beacon app, and click on “Customize Messages”. You can then edit your text, email, and nudge messages.

  • How can I delete my account?

    To delete your account click the “delete account” button inside the App Settings Menu at
    My Info > Delete Account.
