While stay-at-home orders during COVID19 helped to slow down the fallouts of the pandemic, the cases of domestic violence have skyrocketed. One out of every 4 women and 1 in 7 men experience sexual violence from their intimate partners. To raise public awareness and educate communities on how to prevent domestic violence, April is observed as Sexual assault Awareness Month.

Sexual Assault Awareness begins with recognizing the full spectrum of unhealthy controlling behaviors. Being monitored, not being allowed any privacy, isolating yourself from friends and family, and disrespecting and threatening you with intimidating gestures are all early signs of domestic violence.

Family violence is a complex problem, and people who are suffering from it need personal safety assurance. Owning a personal panic button can help empower domestic abuse survivors and ensure their safety.

The Silent Beacon is a Bluetooth personal safety device that pairs with your smartphone and tablet. Our technology allows you to call any number, including 911, at the touch of a button.  Simultaneously, it can send any family, friends, or emergency services you have chosen, texts, push notifications and email alerts accompanied by your current GPS location, allowing you to receive help faster.

Safety is the number one priority for violence survivors, and anything that brings a little peace to them is the utmost need of domestic violence shelters. Wearing a safety device will bring a sense of comfort to survivors who are already struggling with post-traumatic stress, fear, and anxiety.

Domestic Violence Is Alarmingly Common

Nearly half of all women have experienced psychological aggression from their intimate partners. At least one of your female friends has likely been in an abusive relationship. With statistics of sexual assault being so high, safety planning and prevention is of the utmost importance. That’s where a personal safety device comes into play.

Silent Beacon will allow them to call 911, emergency personnel, ambulance services, or their loved ones with one button press. Our panic button is the only wearable personal safety device that allows you to choose which phone number you wish to call during an emergency. The button is small, you can wear it or clip it anywhere on your body, and it’ll go unnoticed. Keep it in silent

Shelter Workers Need Safety Devices Too

According to a study exploring the experiences of domestic shelter workers, a whopping 51% of shelter workers are frustrated by their jobs due to compassion fatigue and secondary trauma.

The majority of the shelter workers have occasionally experienced fear. Some shelters have been broken into, and some workers have been sexually assaulted.

Often, abusive partners of women who seek safety follow them to domestic violence shelter homes. They can wreak havoc in the place, physically harming not only the women but also shelter workers. This is why I speak of the need for safety devices in domestic violence shelters

Technology can work wonders in the effort to support survivors of domestic abuse. The more they feel connected to the people they can count on in an emergency, the more empowered and safe they feel. Silent Beacon is an essential tool that can help domestic violence survivors and shelter workers achieve the peace of mind they deserve.
